Past Board Chair Sam McAllester receives Habitat Tennessee’s Lifetime Achievement Award

On July 27, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville proudly celebrated one of its most dedicated volunteers and leaders as Past Board Chair Sam McAllester received the Lifetime Achievement Award during Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee’s 2026 State Impact Awards Dinner.

The Lifetime Achievement Award honors an individual whose years of volunteer service have created a significant and lasting impact on their local Habitat affiliate while exemplifying the mission of Habitat for Humanity.

For those who know Sam, the recognition comes as no surprise.

A Simple “Yes” That Changed Everything

Sam’s journey with Habitat began in 2011 when he agreed to join the organization’s Advisory Council. At the time, the role required attending just two meetings each year.

What began as a modest commitment quickly grew into 15 years of extraordinary service, leadership and advocacy on behalf of Habitat’s mission.

Over the years, Sam has become one of Habitat’s most trusted advisors, lending his time, expertise and heart to the organization in countless ways.

Leading With Expertise and Service

Throughout his tenure, Sam has served for 13 consecutive years on Habitat’s Finance Committee, including six years as committee chair. He has also held several key leadership positions on the Board of Directors, serving as vice chair, chair and, most recently, past chair.

Drawing from more than five decades of legal experience, Sam has helped guide important land purchases, financial transactions and governance decisions that have strengthened Habitat’s ability to serve more families across Middle Tennessee.

His commitment extends far beyond the boardroom. Sam has supported Habitat builds through corporate sponsorships and hands-on volunteer service, including volunteering throughout the 2019 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Nashville. He has also helped advance Habitat’s statewide advocacy efforts through support of Habitat Tennessee’s annual legislative reception.

More Than a Board Leader

While his accomplishments are impressive, those who work alongside Sam know that his greatest impact cannot be measured by titles or years of service.

He is a teacher, mentor, volunteer and friend who approaches every decision with thoughtful preparation, sound judgment and a deep belief in Habitat’s mission. His leadership has helped shape the organization while inspiring others to become involved and make a difference.

A Lasting Legacy

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville and Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee are stronger today because Sam McAllester said “yes” to Habitat in 2011.

His 15 years of dedicated service have left an enduring mark on the organization, the families it serves and the volunteers and leaders who have had the privilege of working alongside him.
